|
On the invitation of the Ecological Protection Forum Nepal, a team of 15 Taiwanese students from Yuan Ze University came to Nepal and conducted the Computer Education Support Program at Himalayan Academy Elementary School, Kalanki, Kathmandu from 2nd July to 20th July 2008. The team come to Nepal on the leadership of Aaron. EPF Nepal has established friendly relationship with Yuan Ze University Taiwan. This program is expected to be conducted every year. Its main motto is to share the knowledge with Nepalese students and exchange experience. The team donated 9 computers to the Himalayan Academy Kalanki Kathmandu, and 2 computers to EPF-Nepal.
The University of Yuan Ze is one of the top Universities in Taiwan. The members of this voluntary group are selected from different facilities with solid training to provide overseas service since 2004. They have been in Africa and India to conduct computer programs during summer vacation. The leader of this voluntary group is Mr. Aaron Hsu who is also a key member of Global Youth Development Organization. Only the top students in each facility are selected to join this club. The students are very active in various activities, and self-funding from different organizations.
Their primary plan was to set up Internet for Himalaya Academy School where students never get the chance to have computer education due to lack of facility and resource. EPF-Nepal has bridged this opportunity for both parties to accomplish this target together. At the meantime, EPF-Nepal plays a critical role to monitor and provide regular report after the team left. On account of that two computers were donated to EPF for following up work.
Children in Himalaya Academy Elementary School are so excited to meet those young teachers from Taiwan. The program was aim to teach children from scratch. The first day class was from how to use computer, keyboard and mouse. Small kids learn to use painting software to make their fist computerized drawing. Later on, they took advanced class for recoding, typing and combined photos from digital cameras. The program was conducted on daily base, each students had chance to learn to use computer software according to their ability. The students up to class 6 were taught how to use word and excel while the younger one enjoys the inspiration of new computer world. The only regret is that the internet facility didn’t run well, so the main target to lead those children make contact with international world by internet wasn’t fulfilled.
The program is from 2nd to 20th Aug, 15 days of teaching has open the eyes and minds of local Nepali children, the strong connection of cross-culture friendship was build up tightly. The farewell ceremony was full of laughs, dance and music, tears and appreciations. We would like to dedicate our deepest appreciation to our dear friends from Taiwan, and wish our partnership will continue to bring the development and opportunities for Nepali children.
